Do you ever feel like you are fighting your cycle? Like when that time of the month comes around you and those around are simply a victim to your hormones?
You are not alone.
But I want to challenge you - why do we have to fight something so natural and that we experience... well, often. Maybe, there is a way to -pardon my pun- go with the flow.
In many cultures, a long time ago, a woman’s cycle was honored. Viewed as a source of strength and magic.
When a woman was “PMS-ing,” she was viewed as fierce, intuitive, and assertive. People would come to her with questions.
When a woman was bleeding, they had the “red tents,” where they would go with other women to rest, bleed, eat, and be treated with luxury.
Different phases of your cycle represent different emotional experiences and you can use this to your benefit.
Learning about my cycle forever changed my life and helped me connect to myself on a deeper level, and in all honesty - let go of the shame society has created regarding our periods.
So let’s dive on in, shall we?!

Understanding Your Cycle with Still Waters Counseling
Your menstrual cycle isn’t just about physical changes—it affects your energy, emotions, and mindset too. By recognizing these shifts, you can work with your body instead of fighting against it. Still Waters Counseling encourages a deeper awareness of these phases, helping you align with your natural rhythm for improved mental well-being.
Pre-Ovulation: Building Energy & Creativity
This is a time of renewal. Your energy is returning, and your body is preparing for fertilization. You may feel more motivated, social, and creative. This is the perfect phase to start new projects, set goals, and be more active. If you’re feeling inspired, lean into it!
Ovulation: Confidence & Connection
Your body is in baby-making mode, whether you’re planning for pregnancy or not. You might feel more attractive, confident, and social. Your libido may be higher, and you might find yourself more outgoing and flirty. This is a great time to take action—whether that’s in your personal life, career, or creative endeavors.
Pre-Menstrual: Reflection & Boundaries
Your body is preparing to shed the egg, and this can bring mood shifts. You might feel more assertive, emotional, or even irritable. This phase is an opportunity to turn inward. Are certain situations causing stress or anxiety? Still Waters Counseling can help you explore whether boundaries need to be set, emotions processed, or changes made. Instead of resisting these feelings, try embracing them as signals from your body.
Menstrual: Release & Rest
This is your body's natural "letting go" phase. You may feel more emotional or fatigued, which makes rest and self-care essential. Think of this time as a reset—allow yourself to slow down, reflect, and recharge. Grief, whether over the loss of the egg or emotional attachments, can surface. It’s okay to feel deeply during this time. Still Waters Counseling supports a compassionate approach to this phase, helping you navigate emotions without guilt.
Embracing the Natural Flow
If tracking your cycle feels overwhelming, a period tracker app can help. The iPhone’s built-in Health app or the Clue app can offer insights into how your mood and energy fluctuate throughout the month. Understanding these shifts can prevent burnout and help you work with your natural rhythm instead of against it.
Your cycle is like the moon—it moves through phases, each with its own purpose. By tuning in, you can improve your mental and emotional well-being. Still Waters Counseling is here to support you in embracing every part of the journey.

Happy tacking Ladies!
